Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound in some types of mouthwashes, toothpastes, lozenges, throat sprays, anti-snore throat sprays, breath sprays, and nasal sprays. It is an antiseptic that kills bacteria and other microorganisms. It has been shown to be effective in preventing dental plaque and reducing gingivitis.


Adults and children 2 years of age and older: brush teeth thoroughly, preferably after each meal or at least twice a day, or as directed by a dentist or doctor. Children 2 years of age to under 6: Use a pea-sized amount. Instruct under under 6 on good brushing habits (to minimize swallowing). Supervise children as necessary until capable of using without supervision. Children under 2 years: consult a dentist or doctor.
