Dental Tape is a strip of waxed nylon or PE fiber used to aid the prophylaxis (cleaning) of interproximal (between teeth) surfaces of the teeth. The one side is flattened forming a wider side to the floss. Some feel that this not only cleans better but also that the flattened edge allows it to pass between the teeth more easily. The important thing is to use a floss that motivates daily use. Proper flossing technique is more important than which floss you use. The choice to use regular floss or tape, waxed or unwaxed, mint flavor or unflavored floss, all depend on personal preference and convenience.

A person should floss between all their teeth. For those with tight spaces, try using a product that slip easier such as the Teflon coated Glide or Dr Collins Waxed Dental Work floss. For those with teeth joined together with a bridge and/or implants, try using a floss threader. Oral-B's Superfloss and Thornton's Bridge and Implant floss are also great for cleaning under dental work.

Caution: to avoid cutting the gum tissue, do not to floss in a sawing motion. The floss should wrap each side of the tooth's surface in a "C" shape and be gently moved up and down several times. This dislodges plague and debris which can cause damage to tooth and gum structure. We recommend flossing before brushing and rinsing as this helps to remove any plaque which has loosened and left behind during the flossing process. Do not hesitate to ask your dental professional to review proper flossing technique.
