Lipreve is an effective, OTC easy-dose capsule taken twice
daily for two days to heal cold sores and relieve the
accompanying itching, burning and swelling—without the mess.
Relieves Common Symptoms The symptoms are all too
familiar: you feel an “itchy” or tingling sensation on or
near your lip, followed by a blister, which swells and
eventually bursts. They’re unsightly and incredibly painful.
Other cold sore treatments are messy, topical creams that
have to be repeatedly applied directly to the cold sore. And
they’re only effective when used at the prodromal or “itchy”
stage of a breakout, before a sore appears. Lipreve heals
cold sores without the mess of a cream—even if you start
using it after the prodromal (beginning) stage.

Cold Sores
If you’ve ever had a cold sore, you know the feeling
well. It begins with an “itchy” or tingling sensation
(called the prodromal stage) on or near your lip,
followed by a blister, which swells and swells, then
eventually bursts. Cold sores are painful, unsightly,
uncomfortable and seem to last forever—10 to 14 days on
average. You might get a cold sore just once. And you
might be one of the unfortunate people who get cold
sores again and again.
Cold sores (also known as fever blisters) are caused
by the herpes simplex virus, and they are
contagious—although the virus can only be transmitted by
close personal contact such as kissing. Cold sores are
not a sign of a recently acquired infection, but a
reactivation of virus particles already in your body.
Most people come into contact with the virus between the
ages of three and five and don’t show any symptoms until
after puberty. Once you’ve had a cold sore, the virus
lays dormant in the nerve cells in your skin until
they’re “reactivated.” Common triggers include certain
foods, fever, diet deficiencies, stress, menstruation,
and exposure to the sun—though causes vary from person
to person.
NOTE: The virus can spread to other parts of
your body, so avoid direct contact with a cold sore as
much as possible, and wash your hands thoroughly after
touching your lips.
Lipreve™ is the first oral medication for
treatment of cold sores. And it’s available over the
counter without a prescription. Taken twice daily,
Lipreve heals cold sores faster than topical
treatments—even if you start using it after the
prodromal or ‘”itchy” stage. Lipreve reduces the pain of
cold sores faster than competing products. Plus, Lipreve
provides relief of the itching, burning and swelling
associated with cold sores. And because it’s an
easy-to-swallow capsule, you avoid the risk of spreading
the virus every time you apply a topical ointment or
cream. Not to mention the mess.
So how can you help prevent cold sores? Living a
healthy lifestyle can strengthen you body’s defense
system—eat a varied diet, exercise regularly and get
adequate sleep. If exposure to sun seems to be the
culprit for your outbreaks, using a sun block can help
to prevent reactivation.

two thumbs up I just starting getting cold sores earlier this year and was devistated. I feel so ugly and embarrassed when
I get one. I saw an add for Lipreve and thought what could it hurt. The abreva and carmex and other therapies
did not seem to help at all, so I figured that it was worth a try. It didn't work as well as I had hoped (and
make it completely go away), but to my surprise it worked much better than I expected. My last cold sore was
almost healed in about 2-3 days vs. over a week. I take it whenever I feel I might potentially get a cold sore
and so far it seems to help with prevention and it's been several months since my last cold sore. I don't advise
it because I haven't read anything about side effects from overuse. It is expensive, especially when you have to
pay for shipping and handling, but it has been worth it to me, the only thing better would be a cure. I would
definately recommend this product. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it smells funny, like garlic
or something not terribly pleasant, but once you swallow it, it isn't an issue.
